At Bloom Dispensaries, we strive to become an integral part of every community in which we operate. Ongoing Bloom Gives Back efforts include working with local neighborhood associations, volunteering at charity events and local food banks and contributing to the Phoenix Adopt-A-Street program.
On any given night, there are as many as 6,000 homeless men, women, and children in the greater Phoenix area. Bloom partnered with the Phoenix Rescue Mission to do something about it! Bloom provided over 1,300 meals for Phoenix families during the holiday season. Thank you to our amazing patients who are happy to give back to our community!
Bloom raised over $1,200 to donate to St. Vincent de Paul’s, Dream Center program which feeds children’s tummies and minds.
Here, children learn to read, write and dream big dreams. The Dream Center provides one-on-one tutoring programs, activities and experiences to strengthen academic skills that are critical to their future success.
Our hearts went out to the Arizona firefighters who fought so bravely on Yarnell Hill. In honor of the 19 Hotshots who lost their lives at the Yarnell Fire in June 2013, Bloom offered a free pre-roll to patients who contributed to the relief fund. The response was tremendous with an 88% donation rate. Bloom proudly presented a check to the Professional Firefighters Association of Arizona for $2453.33.
Michael McPhearson is a favorite Bloom Phoenix employee who left late in 2013 to pursue his medical degree. Bloom’s spirit of giving back lives on in Michael still today. He serves as Community Outreach Chair for Naturopaths Without Borders – an organization that provides health care to underserved communities around the world. In March 2014 Michael travelled to Haiti to work in a healthcare clinic. Bloom hosted a fundraiser in February help Michael with trip costs and medical supplies for the clinic. The outpouring of support and generosity for Michael was truly heartwarming – together we raised an incredible $3000 – an amount that literally brought tears to his eyes when we presented him with the check!
To assist local food banks in their preparations for the holiday season, Bloom decided to get started early in 2013 and hosted a canned food drive for the entire month of October. As we have come to realize, the generosity of Bloom patients knows no bounds! Within the first week, we received well over the amount of cans than we had set as our goal for the entire month. By the time Halloween arrived, we proudly donated the 5,000 cans we had collected and were ready to begin the Bloom Holiday Card Contest Giveaway.
Bloom is committed to improving the quality of life for our patients and the community alike. So for the 2013 holiday season we decided to gift 10 medical marijuana cards to qualifying patients in positions of need. Entrants had to describe in 50 words or less, why they deserve a free medical marijuana card. Reading through the thousands of applicants will always remain one of the most heart wrenching experiences. Watching the amazing difference medical marijuana has made in the lives of those 10 card winners though – seeing the changes in their debilitating conditions like Crohn’s, Epilepsy, Fibromialgia, or chronic pain, and watching them reduce or stop completely the use of narcotics – that makes it all worthwhile!
In collaboration with the City of Phoenix Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Street Program, Bloom Phoenix adopted a street in our neighborhood to be responsible for keeping clean. Once per quarter Bloom staff meet early in the morning for a quick breakfast, then head out and pick up trash on Washington Street between 40th and 48th streets. The outing is always full of laughter and good times followed by a wonderful, gratifying feeling once we finish! Patient volunteers are always welcome to join us as we help keep our neighborhood and community clean by participating in the City of Phoenix Adopt-A-Street program.
If you are interested in participating as a volunteer in the Bloom Gives Back program, please email your full name and phone number to firstname.lastname@example.org and a Bloom Volunteer Coordinator will be back in touch with you.
